Squirrels exhibit territorial behavior, especially male squirrels. Adult male squirrels use chasing to establish and maintain dominance. They will chase or nip at other squirrels that are feeding within their territory. The up and down spiraling pattern by a tree displayed during chases is a sign of territorial dispute. Most species of squirrels are territorials.

A gametophyte is the haploid phase of plants that undergo alternation of generations. Its cells contain only a single set of chromosomes. It produces gametes by mitosis in order to produce a zygote.

The picture above shows a tree exposed to lichen. Lichen is a simple plant consisting of a fungus forming a crustlike or branching growth on rocks, walls, and in this instance, trees. It is made from the combination of an alga and a fungus.

Simple Carbohydrate - Sugar

Simple carbohydrates are quick energy resources, but they do not supply any other nutrients or fiber. Glucose is the major kind of simple sugar. It is the basic source of energy for most living things. Glucose, sugar, occurs naturally in fruits and vegetables. It is also produced in the body by braking down other foods into glucose.

A modified leaf of a plant is when a leaf performing functions other than photosynthesis and transpiration requires structural change. The leaves change their looks and are called modified leaves. An example of a modified leaf of a plant is an onion. The bulbs of the onion are modified stems.

Monosaccharide - Honey

Monosaccharides are the most basic units of carbohydrates. It constitutes the building blocks of more complex forms of sugars like polysaccharides and "oligosaccharides". Honey is an example of a monosaccharides. Because monosaccharides can occasionally be sweet, that is where honey gets its sweetness from.

Polysaccharides - Rice

Polysaccharides are a class of carbohydrates which consist of numerous monosaccharides joined by glycosidic bonds. Rice is an example of a polysaccharide. They are complex carbohydrates. It consists of thousands of the sugars (monosaccharides).

Complex carbohydrates generally supply energy and other nutrients and fiber that the body needs. Starch is an example of a complex carbohydrate. Starch breaks down into simple sugars in the body. The body has to break down all sugar & starch into glucose in order for it to be used. Starch gives the body much energy. Examples of starch are bread, cereal, potatoes, pasta, and rice.

Rice is an example of a c3 plant. C3 plants involve direct carbon fixation of CO2. C3 plants must grow in areas where CO2 concentration is high, temperature is moderate, and ground water is abundant. In hot areas, the stomata are closed to prevent water closs; however, it results in the rise of the oxygen level. The enzyme, rubisco, will react with O2 instead of CO2 which causes wasteful lost of the needed CO2 in c3 plants.
