College Recommendations

An old proverb: Senioritis Strikes Early and Often. Be wary!

Welcome to Mr. Buggé's College Recommendations Page.  Please carefully read ALL the information below before asking me to write your recommendation.

My Philosophy and Approach to the Process
I take your college recommendation letter very seriously.  While I am not suggesting that my letter alone will get you into the college of your choice, often times teacher's letters can be the difference for some candidates who may be "on the bubble."  Therefore please give thought as to why you want me to write your letter.  Think about your involvement in class throughout the entire year.
  • Did you actively participate in discussions and debate forums, or were you more passive, choosing instead to sit back and listen?
  • What did you do during the school year that would make you stand out and provide me ample material for your letter?
  • Do you participate in out of class school activities or athletics?
  • Am I aware of that involvement?
In other words, how can I write  your letter if I do not know anything about you?  How can I help you achieve the school of your choice if you did nothing throughout the year that would make you stand out from the crowd.  This is the crux of the situation.  In order for me to pen a letter that accurately reflects your positive attributes they must have shined throughout the year.

The Process

I am registered on Naviance to write and submit your recommendation electronically.  You need to follow my instructions below in order to fill out the necessary form on Naviance.  Additionally you need to let me know the schools you are applying to and when the deadlines are for submission.  As I understand the process I will write your letter and upload it to the Naviance site.  Our Guidance Department will then combine my letter and submit it electronically with your other documents.  If your choice of school requires a written copy mailed you are still responsible for providing me the properly addressed and stamped envelope in proper time.

Below you will find three items that you can, and should use, when submitting your information to me.  Please note that I have modified the questions usually given to you by guidance for your teachers.  I am looking for more in-depth and thoughtful responses.

Student Questionnaire - This form is similar to the one found on Naviance.  The difference is I modified the questions to suit my needs when writing your recommendation.  You must use these questions and reply to them on the Naviance form.  Remember these are customized for me, and not generic questions.  Please click here to download a MS Word file containing a combination of the school's college recommendation packet that you fill out for teachers, and my elaboration to the questions.  This is the only one I will accept.

Please check the listing below for information pertaining to your college recommendation letters

Status:
Requested - means you asked me to write your letters and I agreed.  I am still waiting for all your materials such as envelopes, filled out questionnaire or lists of schools.

In Progress - means you have given me your completed questionnaire and I am placing your information in the queue for writing.

Written - means that I wrote your letter.

Uploaded - means I uploaded the letter to your Naviance account and completed your Common App evaluation form.  You must select me as the person you want to write your letter as well as completing the waiver.

Sent - in today's electronic world it is rare that I have to physically send a letter via the United States Postal Service, however, if your school will only accept recommendations via snail mail I will do so as soon as you supply me with an addressed envelope complete with proper postage.

Class of 2018 Letter Process - College Rec Letter Requests are open and will remain so until June 15, 2017.  If you do not ask me by that date I will not have time to devote to your letter.

Update 9/19/17 - As you can see all letters are written.  Check below for the status of your letter.
