Here is a picture of ethanol establishing a vapor pressure.  The ethanol liquid, having weak intermolecular attractions, readily evaporates in a closed container.  The resulting vapor exerts a pressure, as measured by the manometer.


Think about it...would the measured pressure be different if water were in the container?  What about hexane?
