A book of historical fiction, Milkweed by Jerry Spinelli is the story of a gypsy orphan living in the ghetto during the Holocaust.  It gives a very different perspective of this historical event, given that the boy, Misha, is very young and unaware of much about the larger world he lives in.  The focus is on mere survival and the relationships he has with other orphans as well as a Jewish family living in the ghetto.  With his small size and quick instincts, he's a deft thief whom others come to rely on for food and sustenance.
