“EL FUTURO”

*We use the future tense to express what will happen in the future…

 

*To form the future tense take the ar/er/ir verb in the infinitive form (comer/hablar/decidir…) and add the following endings…

 

      (yo) é                    (nosotros/as) emos

 

(tú) ás                   (vosotros/as) éis

 

      (él/ella/Ud.) á      (ellos/ellas/Uds.) án

 

Examples: Yo comeré / nosotros hablaremos / ellos decidirán… (*notice that you can see the “infinitive” or the whole form of the verb in the conjugation because you are adding the ending to the infinitive…)

*As with other grammar tenses in Spanish, the future has some irregular forms. Here are the ones that we would most commonly use in our discussion of possibilities for “A trip abroad to do volunteer work in the future”…

(The following verbs have irregular “future” forms but will not be on the test: poner / salir / venir / decir / componer / contener / haber)

 

With the verbs that have irregular forms, begin the conjugation with the irregular stem and then add the appropriate future ending (é, ás, etc.)

 

Examples: Yo haré / tú podrás / Uds. tendrán
