High School South is committed to providing a safe and healthy environment for each student and staff member. The school nurse supports students to become independent advocates for their own health care. Health services include school management of acute and chronic conditions, sports exam clearance, health screenings, and preventative care.

NJ law states that students, including those over 18 years old, are not permitted to carry medications (prescription or non- prescription) in school. Any medication to be administered during the school day must be administered by the school nurse after the required written approvals by a physician have been obtained. The form for this approval is available on the district web site. Only students with "life threatening" conditions such as asthma, diabetes, or anaphylaxis, may be permitted to carry and self-administer their own medication after the required written approval by their physician has been obtained.
